Senior Data Engineer ETL
Autonomy, innovation and a team that genuinely supports and challenges each other. If you ask our data engineers what they enjoy about their work at the Randstad Group, those are the things you’ll hear. We are now looking for a senior ETL developer to join this team as we continue to invest in our data strategy.
You will be part of one of the central Data and Analytics Platform (DnAP) teams which is setting up a completely new and modern data and analytics platform. This platform is used by thousands of colleagues at Randstad Groep Nederland. Our goal is to provide an easy-to-use, performant and cost-efficient data platform for different user groups, which includes report consumers, report developers, data analysts and data scientists. Our team works closely with these user groups to optimize the data platform for their use cases. With many more exciting applications of the data platform functionalities in the near future, there are many more challenging projects to come.
You and your team specifically focus on building and soon managing the new data warehouse in Snowflake with a supporting stack that includes technologies like DBT, Airflow, GitLab and more.
The data warehouse sits in between the data lake and BI environment on the data & analytics platform, so our etl developers also interact much with technologies like Amazon S3 and Tableau.
You will bring your experience and knowledge to this project to help us make the right decisions moving forward in collaboration with all data teams within RGN.
Our data engineers integrate and transform the data from the different systems and then load it into our data warehouse. Accuracy, completeness and timeliness are paramount, with the performance and stability in mind.
You will be responsible for:
- understanding the business needs for analysable datasets
- translating the business needs into data transformations that lead to report/analysis-ready datasets
- improving the data platform experience
- reviewing code of team members and being a mentor to more junior colleagues
- suggesting solutions which improve the quality of our data products and development processes
- solving production issues
- maintaining the current stack (Redshift/Matillion/Microstrategy) while it is being replaced by the new stack
As a senior data engineer you actively start and take a role in conversations about the continued improvement and development of our platform and help shape the strategy and roadmap to achieve our data vision.
What we expect from you:
- a minimum of 5 years experience within data warehousing, at least part of that within cloud based environments (snowflake, redshift, etc.)
- demonstrated experience with SQL, as well as ETL development through various tools and techniques (dbt advantageous)
- very good understanding of dimensional data modelling
- experience working in an agile environment according to devops principles
- experience working independently with business stakeholders and the ability to communicate about complex technical topics in accessible language
Nice to have:
- tableau experience (or similar reporting tooling)
- modern scheduling/orchestration experience (airflow, user access control, etc.)
- knowledge of data structures & formats (JSON, CSV, Parquet, YAML, etc.)
- experience with test driven development
- knowledge of jinja and python
- an interest in learning at least some Dutch to support accurate data modelling
What we offer:
- a welcoming and supportive environment where we learn from each other
- plenty of training opportunities and development opportunities within Randstad Group Netherlands, both in your field and in soft skills.
- a monthly salary between €4.000 and €5.880
- a monthly benefit budget of 12,347% incl. holiday bonus (up to €726) to spend partially pre-tax on things like extra days off, gym membership, a bike, or simply get paid out.
- 25 days holidays and the ability to top those up to a maximum of 51 with your benefit budget
- a fully paid electric company lease car (incl. charge costs) or good mobility budget
- possibility to go on sabbatical, or to participate in international volunteer projects
- a generous share purchase plan with 100% bonus shares on top of the shares you buy
- a work from home budget to set up your ideal work space and the flexibility to work from home about 80%
